ghostwriting sample: Hush Honey: A Short Story

Benny the Bumblebee wasn’t like the other bees in the hive. While they were all buzzing about, working tirelessly for the Queen, Benny had… aspirations. Ambitions. Dreams of something bigger than just collecting pollen and making honey for someone else.

So, one day, after a rather unfortunate incident involving a pollen overdose and a very grumpy wasp, Benny decided it was time to start his own business.

Introducing: Hush Honey.

“No questions. No stings. Just honey.”

That was the slogan. Short, simple, and slightly mysterious—just the way Benny liked it.

He set up shop in an abandoned flowerpot just outside of Old Man Higgins’ garden. The location was perfect—secluded, yet close enough to the best nectar sources in town. He even had a tiny wooden sign that read:

HUSH HONEY
"For when you need a little sweetness… and a little secrecy."

Benny wasn’t exactly sure what he meant by secrecy, but it sounded important. And important things made honey sell.

The Buzz Begins

At first, business was slow. A few butterflies stopped by, mostly to gossip. A ladybug came in, looked around suspiciously, then scuttled out without a word.

But then, Benny got his first real customer.

“Psst. You Benny?” a deep, gruff voice whispered.

Benny turned to see Big Tony, the head of the local ant mafia.

Benny gulped. “Uh… depends. Who’s asking?”

Tony leaned in. “Let’s just say… I got an ant-erprise to run, and my workers need motivation.

Benny nodded, sweating a little. “I got honey for that.”

Tony smirked, tossing a sunflower seed onto the counter. “Keep it quiet, alright?”

And just like that, Hush Honey was in business.

The Sweet Life (and Sticky Situations)

Word spread fast. Soon, Benny had customers from all over the garden.

A nervous squirrel who needed something to bribe the blue jays … a pair of bickering lovebugs looking for a peace offering … a grumpy hedgehog who just wanted “the good stuff” without dealing with those snobby worker bees.

Benny even introduced limited-edition flavors like Sunflower Supreme and Lavender Love, which may or may not have contained pollen Benny borrowed from the Queen’s private stash.

Business was booming. But with great honey… comes great responsibility.

One afternoon, just as Benny was counting his very small pile of sunflower seeds (profits!), a shadow loomed over his shop.

The Queen’s Guard.

“Benny Bumblebee,” the biggest, meanest drone of them all rumbled, “you’re under investigation for unauthorized honey distribution.”

Benny’s wings trembled. “Whoa, fellas, let’s not get hasty! I’m just a humble bee, running a totally legal business!”

The guards weren’t convinced. They confiscated his honey, his sign, and worst of all—his tiny little business hat.

Just when things looked hopeless, a familiar voice called out.

“Hold it right there!”

It was Big Tony. And he wasn’t alone. Behind him stood a squirrel, a hedgehog, two blue jays, and an army of very, very motivated ants.

“You mess with Benny,” Tony growled, “you mess with all of us.”

The guards hesitated. No one wanted to start a turf war with ants. Ants were ruthless.

After an uncomfortably long silence, the biggest guard sighed. “Fine. But no more stolen pollen, and you pay proper hive taxes.”

Benny nodded furiously. “Oh, absolutely. Wouldn’t dream of dodging taxes. Ha. Ha ha.”

(He was totally going to dream of dodging taxes.)

A Sweet Ending

And so, Hush Honey lived on—now fully licensed (kind of), fully operational, and more popular than ever.

Benny never got his business hat back, but he did get something even better:

A reputation.

Because in the world of bees, squirrels, and slightly shady business dealings… sometimes a little honey goes a long way.

The End. 🐝✨
